MAE BREAZEALE
Mae Breazeale is a Chinese American filmmaker from the Bay Area whose work creates a platform for Chinese culture to shine in modern moments, often making space around themes of mental health from the Asian experience. She puts empathy and humanity at the forefront of her stories.
She goes by her maiden last name, Breazeale, to honor her late father. At 24, she moved to LA to pursue her career, and at 25 she wrote and directed Ráoshù, her directorial debut, which has already garnered recognition for its sensitive portrayal of grief and mental illness in a Chinese family context.
She also has a hand in photography, and was taught by her father who was a professional golf photographer overseas. Her photography focuses on the candid moments of people, embracing the details and small moments, an approach that has transferred seamlessly into her filmmaking.
